Abstract The subject of this research is the combination of local and national tasks of the transport complex of the Russian Far East in the context of the changing foreign policy of the state. The purpose of the study is to consider the demand for the services of the transport when performing local and national tasks. Local tasks are to provide the activities of the macroregional socio-economic system. The increase of trade with Asian countries within the framework of the «turn to the East» policy led to an increase in the cargo volume for the transport of the Far Eastern Federal District, aggravation of infrastructure problems. This carries risks of incomplete fulfillment of the local tasks.
