Abstract The article examines the processes of formation and development of Russian-Mongolian economic interaction and its current state. The genesis of bilateral economic relations at various stages of the relationship is investigated. The conclusion is made about the prevalence of ideology and geopolitics over the economic component of Soviet-Mongolian cooperation. The impact of external factors, including the direct and indirect influence of China, on the level and directions of Mongolia’s economic interaction with the USSR and later with the Russian Federation is shown. The article identifies the current priorities of Russian-Mongolian economic cooperation, including the development of infrastructure connectivity and the promotion of transport and logistics corridors, the implementation of joint energy projects, and the promotion of mutually beneficial trade under preferential regimes.
