Abstract | An important task in improving the level and quality of life of the population of the Magadan region – a subarctic region remote from the central regions of the country, characterized by high migration outflow – is to increase its own food supply through the capabilities of the local agro-industrial complex (AIC), the need for development of which is determined by food security requirements; ensuring year- round physical availability of fresh food from our own production and affordability of local products; preservation and development of traditional crafts of indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North; demand for products in neighboring regions. In order to identify the capabilities of the Magadan region to use its own potential of the agro-industrial complex, an analysis of changes for 1990–2023 was carried out in its key indicators, and the dynamics of regional food self-sufficiency were assessed. A comparison of current average per capita production indicators with the achieved maximum values, mainly in the economically prosperous year 1990, made it possible to determine quantitative indicators of the potential growth in agricultural production, taking into account the projected population of the Magadan region (130 thousand people – 2030): meat – 11,2 times; milk – 3,2; eggs – 1,9; potatoes – 1,4. |
