Abstract The purpose of the review is to identify the characteristic features in the field of organic municipal solid waste in Latin America. The current situation in the 20 countries of the region is characterized by an insufficient level of waste collection (including due to the lack of access to the service to collect the population of some states), low levels of recycling and significant number of unauthorized landfills. Problems with financing and underdevelopment of the monitoring system of circulation of waste make it difficult to form (implementation) of state policy on the transition to the circular economy.
