Abstract The article discusses the practice and effects of using the shift method of natural resources development for the regional economy. The results of Russian and foreign studies on the assessment of the «shift workers’ factor» and its contribution to the economy of the territories of natural resources development are shown. Quantitative characteristics of the use of shift workers in the economy of the Far Eastern Federal District (including in the resource sector) are presented. Individual institutional instruments for regulating shift work at the levels of federal and regional administration in the Russian Federation are characterized. A grouping of the effects of using the shift method by level of impact on economic systems is proposed. The relevance of the formation of methodological approaches for assessing the «shift workers’ factor» and its effects for regional economic development is shown.
