Abstract	The article presents the results of a study of leisure activities in the rural population of Khakassia based on the materials of a sociological survey witch conducted in 2018 in all rural areas of the republic. It turned out that modern villagers, despite the need for a variety of ways to spend leisure time, are not inclined to associate it with visits to cultural and leisure facilities, and increasingly prefer home-based, low-cost or virtual forms of leisure. Opportunities for spending free time vary depending on the level of material wealth of the villagers. The tendency of preference for hedonistic types of leisure associated with idle pastime (including the use of alcohol) is indicated.
