Abstract The article substantiates the hypothesis that modern evolution of the economic system is shown as receiving priority of cooperation vis-a-vis the two other types of transaction costs coordination (competition and power). In the context of digitalisation we can see modification of space as a system of business subjects economic interactions, the role and importance of geographical contiguity is being decreased. However, the article shows that priority cooperation coordination mechanism makes businesses take into account the need to coordinate its activities with economic agents located within the same territory. In general, this significantly complicates the notion and peculiarities of functioning of economic space.
