Abstract This article examines how the rights and interests of indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation are integrated into socio-economic development strategies for the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD). An analysis of regulatory documents from the 2000s to 2020s identifies the gap between declarations and their implementation. The experience of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), with its current law on ethnological expertise and network of traditional nature management territories, is used as an example of testing mechanisms for protecting the interests of indigenous peoples of the North at the regional level. Systemic problems are identified, including conflictual inconsistencies in federal programs and funding instability. Recommendations are formulated for synchronizing strategies and legal regulation to ensure the sustainable development of indigenous peoples’ territories.
