Abstract	The subject of this study was quantitative and qualitative changes in the socio-demographic characteristics of the development of the Magadan Region and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug for the period from 1990 to 2024. The main goal is to identify and explain the features of these changes in different subperiods. The main tools of regional policy used in the regions to improve socio-demographic characteristics are considered. A significant decline and aging, an increase in the share of the peoples of the North, an active attraction of labor migrants, including from other countries, features of the employment structure of the population, new motivations and, as a result, a «different» sociodemographic portrait of residents – this is the objective reality that must be taken into account in managing socio-economic development of the regions of the Far North-East of Russia.
