Abstract | Using regulatory documents, government statistics, industry agencies, and analytical research materials, the situation in the forest complex of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) as an integral part of the national forest complex was analyzed. The study period was 2023 and 9 months of 2024. It was shown that in the FEFD forest complex, unlike the Russian forest complex, the downward trend in production indicators continued in 2024, but not as critical as in the previous period. It was concluded that the decline in indicators in the FEFD forest complex is due to a higher dependence of Far Eastern producers on external demand than in the Russian forest industry as a whole, where domestic demand dominates. Accordingly, the share of Far Eastern products in national production continued to decline, with the exception of fuel pellets, in the production and export of which FEFD enterprises are becoming the main Russian players, due to their proximity to the South Korean market, which has become a monopsonist for this type of product from Russia. For other types of forest products in the FEFD, external demand remains decisive, with the Chinese market dominating. Attempts to develop domestic demand for forestry products in the FEFD, even with government support, have so far yielded little results. |
