Abstract	The study discusses the analytical capabilities of a new detailed array of data based on statistical form No. 4-innovation, published by Rosstat. On the example of the Far Eastern region, we discuss whether the newly published statistics will be able to solve the complex of problems and contradictions that have accumulated in the literature. Then, we propose a system of indicators characterizing the speed of innovative renewal of national and regional economies. The calculated indicators allowed to draw a conclusion about the slow pace of renewal of the Russian economy. In the final part we justify the possibilities of analyzing the internal structure of Russia’s innovation sector. It is shown that a true rating of innovative development of Russian regions today forms on the basis of federal defense order.
