Abstract	The article attempts to raise the question of what is a «capital city» phenomenon, with an emphasis on the attributes, function, and assessment of the role of regional capital cities. Issues related to the relocation of capital cities, including regional ones, are specifically considered. The assumption is formulated that for the Far Eastern macroregion it is advisable to preserve the system of urban dimorphism – when the political center (Khabarovsk) is balanced by the economic one (Vladivostok).
