Abstract	The development of rice growing in the South of the Far East is considered. Here, especially in Primorsky Krai, natural and climatic conditions are favorable for rice cultivation. The beginning of rice cultivation in Primorye is connected with the appearance here of the Koreans in the XIXth century. The development of rice cultivation had a few ups and downs caused by a number of organizational and economic reasons. The main ones were: the resettlement of the Koreans, the collectivization, the Great Patriotic war, the transition from a planned to a market economy.
