Abstract The article analyzes the need for research in science studies, which is developing today, and the problems that arise in their conduct. Analyzing the article by N.V. Naumov, placed in one of the issues of «Regionalistica», the author tries to show that, with all the debatable points of discussed article, this direction today is one of the necessary for a simple self-preservation of science as a special kind of activity.
