Abstract The active melting of the Arctic ice has increased interest in the prospects for the development of the Northern Sea Route not only in Russia, but also in China. The paper analyzes the state, problems, and prospects for the development of the Russian Northern Sea Route, considers the main provisions of China’s Arctic strategy. It is shown that the growth of China’s activity in the Arctic, superimposed on China’s desire to optimize logistics ties with Western Europe, can stimulate the formation of the international transport corridor «Northern Transit», which will attract up to 180 billion rubles of investments in the Far East within the framework of infrastructure projects, and will contribute to the growth of its economy and strengthening the transport framework of the Far East.
