Abstract Active development of the subsoil of the northern territories of Russian Federation actualizes the problem of reconciling the interests of large companies and indigenous peoples which engaged in traditional economy. The results of sociological research, which were devoted to the interaction between subsoil users and representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North and held in 2016 on the territory of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Ugra, are considered in the article.
